Role of Information Technology in Education System: By Faculty Prospective

The main objectives of the paper are to evaluate the importance of IT in higher education and to analyze the government initiatives for development of IT in higher education. Much recent educational research focuses on teaching and learning within classroom conversations. This raises the question of the role of IT as a support for such conversations. The central argument of this paper is that the dual nature of computers, as machines (objects) which can be made to act as if they were people (subjects), allows them to play a potentially distinctive and valuable role within educational conversations. This role is to resource and, at the same time, to frame and direct, learning conversations amongst small groups of children. The use of IT in education lends itself to more student-centered learning settings and often this creates some tensions for some teachers and students. But with the world moving rapidly into digital media and information, the role of IT in education is becoming more and more important and this importance will continue to grow and develop in the 21st century. Thus, the paper suggests that IT in higher education is not a technique for educational development but also a way of socio-economic development of the nation.
