Infrastructure and Economic Development of Madhya Pradesh

Introduction: Madhya Pradesh is called the heart of India due to its geographical location in India. Madhya Pradesh is the second largest state in the country by area. It is the sixth largest state in India by population. Madhya Pradesh economy largely depends on agriculture, industries and minerals. About 70% of the total work force of the state depends directly and indirectly on agriculture. Mines and industries play an important role in economic development of state. There are many flourishing textile mills in the state and artificial silk manufacturing plants located at Ujjain, Nagda, Indore and Gwalior. 

In the recent years the state’s G.D.P. growth has been above the national average. The state is rich in mineral resources and has the largest reserves of diamond and copper in India. More than 30% of its area is under the forest cover. Its tourism industry has been considerable growth with the state topping the National Tourism Awards in 2010-11 Madhya Pradesh has a strong economy.
