Wetlands are important source of natural assets and play vital role in agriculture ,fisheries, holding diversity of fauna and flora, water recycling ,livelihood of the rural people .The ecology of the wetlands are seriously degraded due to the anthropogenic activities of human. Unplanned urbanization and rapid growth of population, the wetlands received large amount of pollutants from industrial and domestic sources and huge siltation from encroachment affect the water quality as well as the diversity of flora and fauna .Fish is the main source of protein of the rural mass and wetlands provide huge number of fishes to mitigate the demand of protein. But unfortunately the production of fishes in open water sources is declining day by day. Importance should be given to save the wetlands by adopting appropriate management strategies.
