Relationship Between the Student and Teacher.

The importance of a teacher has been very well explained by the verse “Gurur Brahma, gurur Vishnu, Gurur Devo Maheshwara. Gurur sakshat, parabrahma, tasmayshree guru ve namah” ,which means that Guru represents Brahma, the creator of the universe; Vishnu, the supporter of life; and Maheshwara i.e. Lord Shiva who destroys all evil. Guru is the incarnation of Parabrahma who is the supreme power and I salute this Guru.

The teachers described an ideal relationship with the student teacher as being based on components such as good communication, trust, and respect. Their actual relationship, however, was described as including both personal and professional dimensions. From a personal perspective, eight of the teachers described “friendships” with the student teacher; two relationships were not characterized in that way. The Good teachers also described a professional relationship by providing support, direction or guidance related to teaching. The quality of the teacher student relationship is the single most important factor that determines success as a teacher.

A strong relationship with students is vital for classroom success so it's worth spending time and energy to get it right. Like every other aspect of classroom management it is possible for every teacher to learn the necessary strategies and techniques to build good relationships between teachers and students.

The relationship between the student- teachers is one of the most important relationships. The teacher guides the student in the right path. It is said that a teacher is the maker of the future generation. The teacher not only imparts the bookish knowledge to the pupils but also helps in enriching the general knowledge of the students. The students must be polite in their attitude towards the teachers. The teachers must educate the children in free minds and they must regard the students as their own children.

Teacher student interaction is complex, but becomes easier to understand when you break it down and study the individual components.

Freedom –

A teacher plays a very important role in the development of a child.  A teacher serves different roles in the life of a student. A teacher can be an advisor, an exemplar, a mentor and a friend.  A teacher believes in the student’s dream and encourages his passion. A good teacher is one who allows the child to grow without constraining him. A good teacher does not dictate a student’s life, but allows a student to be himself.

Respect –

A student teacher relationship is based on mutual trust and respect. The general notion is that a student has to respect his teacher but it is equally important for the teacher to respect the student. A teacher should believe in the dreams and aspirations of a student and guide him in the right direction. A student will respect a teacher more if he feels that the teacher understands him. A student generally remembers the teachers who have made an impact in their lives, who have shown that they care about the student’s wellbeing.

A good teacher earns respect, he doesn’t impose respect.

Counseling –

A teacher also serves as a counselor to the student. A good teacher does not restrict himself to the teaching students a course or a class, he teaches a student lessons that the student can use outside the class. Students appreciate when a teacher takes personal interest in them for instance, if a student is not doing so well in class or is having a personal problem if the teacher cares to ask him about it , the student generally appreciates it.

Education –

A teacher educates the student. Education is not restricted to the syllabi or the class or the course content, it goes beyond the school. A good teacher is responsible for the overall education of a student and this includes academic, personal, social and spiritual education.

A Positive Student-Teacher Relationship

Positive student-teacher relationships are characterized by open communication, as well as emotional and academic support that exist between students and teachers. A positive relationship starts with a comforting reception from a teacher to a student from day one. The teacher needs to acknowledge the activities performed by students of any level and encourage them which then bond a positive relationship. The student needs to approach with full respect and honor for the teacher and consult in any queries occurring in academic activities and the communication between the student and the teacher serves as a connection between the two, which provides a better atmosphere for a classroom environment. The environment develops the growth of a student gradually in developing a personality, characteristics and manners.

As a result of my Research:

Understand some factors related to why students leave college and why they stay in college.

Explore ideas to create conditions that promote student retention.

Identify what faculty can do to support satisfying student relationships.

Describe how to practice dialogue, rather than monologue, to achieve greater learning and promote student-faculty relationships.

Conclusion:

Teacher-student relationships are critical to the success To build good relationships, communicate appropriate levels of dominance and let students know you are in control of the class and are willing and able to lead.
