Expectation Of MBA Student From B-School

1.    Introduction: B-School is an endeavor to create ‘knowledge pool’ through knowledge sharing, knowledge imparting, knowledge acquisition and knowledge creation for the future managers in India and abroad.

We are thinking that “knowledge is a weapon to fight any battle”.

B-School will have success stories of corporate, businessman and people from business administration who have become a role model for the young and aspiring businessman at some stage.This paper tries to deal with the issue of student expectation from the B-school. In over country, conduct many examinations for admission in B-school like as CAT, MET, ATMA, CET, MAT, SNAP, ZLRI etc. All students have to pass examination to get admission in B Schools.

On this issue students think that which exam they should select B-school. More confusion prevails in mind, about difference between the colleges/exams, like National/International level B-school and National/International level exams. Students consult with the various education consultancies to  face such situations. Most of the consultancies suggest study in foreign countries, so that consultancies can take commission from student/ colleges. All efforts are done for to have a such B-school which can enable student most competitive so that he can achieve his best one and he can gain worth full degree so that he can’t wonder hither and thither.
 
MBA - life all about understanding the nuances of business dynamics. An MBA is about learning to work with people, because it is the people who run businesses. An MBA provides a person with the ability to understand the nuances of business and the dynamics involved in managing it. An MBA is useful for anyone who wants to refocus his or her career.

2.    Expectation: Every student wants a bright future. B-school students have some expectation to his B-school which help to achieve his dream.
These are the expectations which play important roles in student’s life.

Some expectations are:
i.    Expectation regarding teaching methodology: Student wants a variety of teaching methods which help to enhance best of the practices and help students to derive the best of the learning from their programs’ and courses.
ii.    Lectures and Tutorials: The B-school class rooms and lecture halls should well equipped with modern teaching aids like multimedia projectors and computers with Wi-Fi connectivity. The simulated teaching software help the student to understand the process in highly visualized form.

iii.    Practical: The practical sessions should be ideal testing grounds for students to apply and test the concepts taught. Modern laboratories and workshops must be an integral part of the various departments of the B-school. Every department should maintain its specialized labs, well equipped with modern equipment of industry standards. We believe in imparting strong practical exposure to the students, so keeps upgrading the lab facilities to industry standards.
iv.    Workshops, Seminars, Guest Lectures and Extension Lectures
Workshops, Seminars, Guest Lectures and Extension Lectures should be conducted on all topics to provide a platform for deliberation and knowledge sharing. Best industrial and corporate professionals are brought to the campus to bring the practical and application practices from the actual working environment and give extra input to the students on the current topics as well as the topics which are relevant to their area of specialization.
v.    Case studies: Case based Group Discussion and teaching should be adopted by the college to enable the students to relate the theory to real world situations. The case based group discussion helps the students to apply the concepts learnt for problem solving/ decision making in the face of reality.
vi.    Simulation: This technique helps in linking the concepts with their applications in the professional field. This also helps to replicate a real world situation in a class room setting through various modes e.g. role play ; software based modeling and students imagine themselves in the decision making situation and act using all the available data and theoretical models.
vii.    Presentations, Video Films and Demonstration of models, equipment and processes: As presentation is the most important part of any professional in the present working environment and almost all the companies require a excellent presenter as their employee. The use of presentations, video films and demonstration of models, equipments and processes is done for teaching. This helps to
o    Develop clarity of thought and confidence among students.
o    Build better conceptual understanding and retention.
o    Keep up students’ interest and to facilitate better understanding of processes and situations.
o    Encourage rational thinking and open discussion.
viii.    Brainstorming: College should work for this method which is helpful for:
o    Come up with new ideas
o    Explore an issue multi-dimensionally.
o    Shoot a problem and solicit ideas irrespective of their feasibility.
o    Think creatively and voice ideas, without fear of criticism or ridicule

ix.    Open Book Test: This test solves many purposes. In order to test students’ understanding of the course, open books tests are conducted which contain questions whose answers can not be directly found in books. These tests make the student to apply his/her mind to analyze and synthesize the available facts in order to answer the question. These tests help to encourage a thorough understanding of the subject matter especially its practical relevance.
x.    Web    Based     Learning: A number of courses across the B-school should be use web based learning materials to augment the more traditional forms of course delivery. This is a very flexible method to allow the students to select when such study takes place and to adjust the pace of learning. In addition, our students benefit from use of the web, CD ROM catalogues, desktop publishing and industry standard office software.

3.     Infrastructure: Infrastructure plays a very important role in a B-School.
i.    Lab: It should be well managed, well qualified Lab assistant, upgraded technology and equipments for easy practices.

iii.    Class Rooms: Electronic Board should be there. Lighting and sound System must be there.
iv.    Garden: Environment play very important role for student study in campus. Every B-school should have large Green-belt. Decoration of garden should be attractive.

4.     Fee Structures: Free Structure should be as per the facility but it should be affordable, comparable and it should be written form because some times college take the additional fee without informing or mention in the fees Boucher.

5.    Affiliation and Authenticity: There are about thousand of colleges in India, most of them are the many state universities. Lacs of students are pursuing various courses in these colleges. Student wants college affiliate and authenticate, he want to secure his future from fraud. There are the some affiliation which prove authenticity of college are UGC (University Grants Commission), ISO, NAAC, AICTE etc.

6.    Faculties: The growth of knowledge within discipline is what makes being a professor so exciting, but it also presents new challenges–particularly when it comes to teaching. Because the time allotted for each course remains constant and the content that could be included in any course continues to grow, B-School may find it difficult to try to cram all this information into a course. Various develop programe should be adopted by the B-School for the faculty development. Faculty Development Programme is a strong link between the continuing development of the institute’s staff and the development of the institution. One of the undoubted strengths of the Institute is the skill and knowledge of  the staff and B-School should be encourage them to develop both professional and personal skills as well as knowledge appropriate to their role.
•    Interdisciplinary Dialogue: In order to enlighten the faculty about the recent advances in the technological areas other than their own discipline, an interdisciplinary interactive forum has been launched.
•    Self Improvement: B-School should be initiated a faculty enrichment program, under which they are encouraged to undertake research projects, conduct and participate in seminars/workshops and are also promoted for higher studies.
The college should be promotes the staff members to pursue higher studies like Ph.D. Many of the staff members have upgraded themselves to higher degrees.
B-School should be encourage the staff members to participate in various conferences, seminars, STTPs (Short Term Training Programs) and workshops so that they can continuously update themselves about latest developments in respective branches.

If some are not conducting it this might be a coming change in the selection procedure in few colleges. It should be adopted by all the B-School. The target of these activities is to promote cooperative learning i.e. the group members will help each other in understanding concepts, solving problems, doing projects as are evaluated on the basis of team performance.


12.    Suggestion: Now a day education system and the way of teaching are changing. The management institution should adopt these changes. As the management education is becoming global hence the students are going abroad for studies. A management institute should focus on research and practical knowledge instead of making student prone to books.

13.    Conclusion: The student life is a combination of in and out of the classroom experiences that enhance their academic personal, Professional, social and spiritual growth.
